Even in winter, when the landscape appears white and magical, there is much to do in Upper Lusatia. Our Schlosshotel is located in the Zittau Mountains holiday region, which offers many hiking, cross-country skiing, and skiing routes. You can also have indoor fun, such as climbing in the hall, visiting the butterfly house, ice skating, or swimming with penguins. We have gathered the most beautiful inspirations for you here. A special highlight in December is the surrounding Christmas markets. Herrnhut Stars

Originating over 160 years ago in the Herrnhut Moravian Church, the Herrnhut Star is considered the origin of all Christmas stars. At the beginning of the 19th century, the first star made of paper and cardboard shone in the boarding school rooms of the Herrnhut Moravian Church. Invented by a teacher in math class, it served to impart a better understanding of geometry. From then on, children made their stars on the first Sunday in Advent and carried this tradition into their families. Striezelmarkt Dresden

The Dresden Christmas Market is one of the oldest and most famous Christmas markets in the world. It has been held during Advent mostly on the Altmarkt in Dresden since 1434 and attracts an average of around 2 million visitors annually. In 2019, the 585th Striezelmarkt took place. The name Striezelmarkt has been derived from the Dresden Stollen, called Strutzel or Striezel in Middle High German, a yeast pastry in a long shape, since around 1500. The market features 230 stalls, with approximately 80 percent of the vendors coming from Saxony. More…
